Stephanie Cook, M.Ed.
Ms. Cook earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where she minored in Alternative Education and Community Radio. Along with a Master's in Education she has dual teaching credentials and her 200 Hour RYT Certification in Vinyasa Yoga. Stemming from her interest in alternative education she began to pursue a Waldorf Credential in 2004 and has currently completed 95% of her coursework to earn a Waldorf Credential. Ms. Cook has spent the last 16 years working with teenagers in a variety of environments.
Early in her education career she worked with foster youth as a Counselor and Supervisor at the Sacramento Children's Home and then landed her first teaching position at Hiram Johnson High School where she taught Special and General education Social Science courses for eight years prior to coming to Carver as part of the founding faculty. Currently, she spends several Saturday's a month teaching yoga to incarcerated girls at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility. Having fully embraced the move towards STEM activities, Ms. Cook is working towards her Arc Desktop certification in Geographic Information Systems and expanding community partnerships with Access Sacramento, our county community radio and television station. In June 2013 Ms. Cook was awarded Sacramento City Unified School District Teacher of the Year. This year Ms. Cook will be teaching; Geography/CGI (9th), Economics (12th), Government (12th), Revolutions (9th) and Vinyasa Yoga (11th).
