Student Voices: A Poem of Courage
By Jackson Mossman
I will be tranquil as I walk the path of life. I will live as an individual
I will be welcoming, kind and authentic.
I will be free from sloth, greed, and wrath.
I will be a hard worker, generous and kind.
I will have the courage to slay my dragon of sloth.
I will  be like the mountain, stubborn and strong
From finding my own sun to happy little trees
I will take hold of "that with hard work and intellect I can do anything"
I will be from nature with all the trees and animals.
I will become strong and due to my courage.  I will be fearless and at peace.

Host a Foreign Exchange Student
This year at Carver we inaugurate our Student Exchange Program. This fall we welcome two students from Germany, Cleo and Leti. These students are spending one month at Carver this fall. In February, the Carver host, Czesa Labedski Belson will got to Germany to stay one month with Leti.
We have another opportunity for a current 10th grader to exchange with a boy from the Waldorf school in Tuebingen, Germany.  Laurenz Reichle  will be an 11th grader next year (2017-18). Laurenz is looking for a current 10th grader to exchange next year with another rising 11th grader at George Washington Carver.
Please email Allegra Alessandri (395-5266 x606011) if you would like to discuss participating in this exchange.

Car Break In at Carver
Carver drivers please be advised that a person driving a white Lexus cased our parking lot on Monday, Oct. 3 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. -- driving around the parking lot for about 40 minutes and looking into each window. The thief smashed one car window and stole an empty purse. Please be vigilant and do not leave valuables in your car-even for a few minutes.

PSAT for All 10th Graders
All sophomores in Sacramento City Unified School District schools take the PST exam on Wednesday, October 19. This test is paid for by the school district.

On test day, Carver students report to school as usual and go to the gym to take the practice college entry exam. Juniors who wish to take the test -- which is a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship -- may register in the front office and pay the $15 test fee.
Preparation booklets from the College Board have been sent home with students. In the meantime, review and practice at
2016 Election
Sacramento voters in November will be asked to weigh in on two measures - Proposition 55 and Measure G - that affect funding to Sacramento City Unified School District.

Proposition 55 extends income taxes on California's wealthiest earners but doesn't raise taxes for anyone. Money from Proposition 55 goes directly to school districts. Measure G is a parcel tax that will help fund programs for struggling students and help bring the arts to all schools.

More information about Measure G and Proposition 55.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 24. (Check your registration status online.)
