6th annual California Solar Regatta
The California Solar Regatta is one way students can experience hands-on learning about renewable energy while having fun outside and helping reduce environmental impacts. It's also a great opportunity for high school students to work together as a team, develop a solar powered boat, and compete against other high schools in a series of events. SMUD, the sponsoring organization, will provide the solar modules. Check out the event flyer here.

Carver seeks a parent team leader to coordinate a team of students after-school meetings two times a week. For more information, contact Molly Mix at pollyanna500@yahoo.com.
Land of the Rising Sun: 11 Day Tour of Japan
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is critical for Carver students to become more culturally aware and globally-minded. To be able to experience the global classroom first hand and see what they have been studying in their classes come to life if life-changing and gives them new perspective on their own lives and the world around them.

Carver teacher Phil Roberto is planning to take a group of students on an educational tour of Japan during the summer of 2018. Stops include Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Hiroshima. More about the itinerary can be found here. Space for the trip is limited. Please contact Mr. Roberto with any questions.
Free Lunch for Carver Students
Did you know? All Carver students are offered a no-cost meal to start the day. Read more about the "Kids Eat Free" universal breakfast program here.
Young Entrepreneur Academy
Below is information regarding the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur Academy (YEA). This is an amazing program that is open to all students ages 16-23. The program is offered at no cost to the students and they come away incredibly enriched, with mentors, and with exposure to the Sacramento business community.

2016 Election
Sacramento voters in November will be asked to weigh in on two measures - Proposition 55 and Measure G - that affect funding to Sacramento City Unified School District.

Proposition 55 extends income taxes on California's wealthiest earners but doesn't raise taxes for anyone. Money from Proposition 55 goes directly to school districts. Measure G is a parcel tax that will help fund programs for struggling students and help bring the arts to all schools.

More information about Measure G and Proposition 55.
The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 24. (Check your registration status online.)
